This course provides an in-depth exploration of difficult airway management, focusing on both anticipated and unanticipated scenarios in anesthesia and emergency care. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical strategies, participants will learn to identify, assess, and manage difficult airways using current evidence-based guidelines and clinical algorithms. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, structured approaches, and the use of alternative and rescue techniques to optimize outcomes.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Define and recognize the clinical features of a difficult airway.
Perform comprehensive preoperative airway assessments using standardized tools and predictors.
Differentiate between anticipated and unanticipated difficult airway scenarios.
Apply stepwise algorithms and backup plans (Plan A–D) for airway management.
Select and utilize appropriate airway devices and techniques, including bag-mask ventilation, supraglottic devices, endotracheal intubation (direct/video), and surgical airways.
Manage complications and postoperative considerations following difficult airway interventions.
Document airway management strategies and communicate effectively with the healthcare team and patients.
